A little insight on high-definition television.
High Definition is television content that is broadcast in considerably better resolution than traditional programming. The federal government passed a law which will begin a new age of all digital television. Even with an HDTV, you won’t get a high-def picture without a high-def signal source. If you have an HDTV, you can receive free programming (such as shows from the major networks) via an over-the-air High-def antenna. For additional channels, you’ll need to purchase a package that includes high-def content from a cable or satellite provider. Many popular programs are offered in high definition by the major TV networks. You can receive an HD signal via an HD antenna or through a paid subscription to an HD cable or satellite service provider. The number of channels provided by either cable or satellite may vary in your area, so check your providers’ channel lists before subscribing.
